The Ducati Monster underwent significant updates in the early 2000s. In 2000, fuel injection was added to the M900 model, marking a notable change. The introduction of the S4 in 2001 was a significant milestone, featuring the liquid-cooled four-valve Superbike engine. This model also brought technical enhancements such as semi-floating front disc brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers, lighter Brembo wheels, and 43 mm Showa inverted forks. Additionally, all Monster models received upgraded instrumentation with the inclusion of a tachometer. In 2002, Ducati introduced a limited 300-unit edition of the high-spec S4, named after the four-time Ducati Superbike Champion, Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty.
