Used R Models Parts

The R series of BMW motorcycles are known for their horizontally opposed flat-twin (boxer) engines. Originally air-cooled, newer models use partial oil cooling or water cooling. Airheads, built from 1923 to 1995, used air-cooled engines, while Oilheads, introduced later, have partially oil-cooled cylinder heads. Water-cooled boxer engines were introduced in 2013 and are used in some modern BMW bikes. Additionally, BMW produced single-cylinder R series motorcycles from 1925 to 1967.

The BMW R65, introduced in 1978, was designed as a mid-size touring motorcycle. Despite sharing the same frame size as larger R series bikes, it had distinctive features like a shorter swingarm and smaller sub-frame, giving it a unique appearance. The original R65 was produced until 1984, and in 1985, its engine was used in the R80 frame, which featured a mono-shock rear suspension. Additionally, between 1981 and 1984, a variant called the R65LS was manufactured, featuring a small triangular fairing designed by Hans Muth. Powered by a 648 cc air-cooled flat-twin engine, the R65 was known for its reliability and featured breaker-less electronic ignition from 1981 onwards. The monolever version of the R65 was produced from 1985 to 1993.
