Ducati's Multistrada line is the brand's adventure-touring platform, built around L-twin engines in configurations ranging from the air-cooled two-valve 620 to the liquid-cooled Testastretta 1200. The Multistrada name has covered three distinct platform generations with no parts interchange between them: the early air-cooled models (620, 1000, 1100), the liquid-cooled 1200 that arrived in 2010, and the V4-powered Multistrada V4 from 2021 onward. Sun Coast carries used Multistrada parts from salvage donors processed through our Florida facility, each one checked, individually photographed, and tracked under a unique SKU.
The Multistrada family has grown significantly since the original air-cooled 620/1000/1100 models (2003-2009). The Multistrada 1200 (2010-2014, 2015-2017) and 1260 (2018-2021) use Ducati's Testastretta liquid-cooled L-twin with increasingly sophisticated electronics including Skyhook semi-active suspension, cornering ABS, and multiple riding modes. The Multistrada V4 (2021+) marked a fundamental shift to a 1158cc V4 Granturismo engine. Parts compatibility is generation-specific: the air-cooled models share no components with the Testastretta models, the 1200 and 1260 share many chassis and engine components within their respective production runs, and the V4 is an entirely new platform. When ordering parts, identifying the exact generation and engine type is essential for compatibility.
Ducati Multistrada platform overview
The first-generation Multistrada 620 (2005-2006), 1000 (2003-2006), and 1100/1100S (2007-2009) share a common chassis architecture with air-cooled Desmodue two-valve L-twin engines. The 620 uses a smaller-displacement version of the same engine family, while the 1000 and 1100 are more closely related, with the 1100 being a bored-out evolution of the 1000. Frame, bodywork, and suspension components interchange to varying degrees within this first-generation group, but nothing from these air-cooled models fits the later liquid-cooled 1200.
The Multistrada 1200 (2010-2018) was a clean-sheet redesign built around Ducati's liquid-cooled Testastretta 11-degree L-twin. It introduced electronic rider aids including traction control, ABS, and selectable riding modes. The 1200 went through its own sub-generations (2010-2012, 2013-2014 with revised electronics, and 2015-2018 with DVT variable valve timing), each with compatibility considerations for body panels and electronic components. No parts from the 1200 fit the earlier air-cooled Multistrada models or the later V4.
For parts buyers, the critical distinction is between the air-cooled era (620/1000/1100) and the liquid-cooled era (1200). These two platform generations share nothing. Within the air-cooled group, the 1000 and 1100 are closely related and share many chassis and bodywork components, while the 620 uses the smaller Desmodue engine with some different ancillaries. Within the 1200 group, the 2010-2014 and 2015-2018 sub-generations have differences in electronics, instrument clusters, and some bodywork trim pieces, though the core frame and engine architecture carries across.
