The 694cc RC14E-derived engine is mechanically consistent across all four model years. Pistons, connecting rods, valve train components, and most engine internals interchange freely between 1984-1987 bikes. The 1986 redesign changed the frame geometry significantly: the seat was lowered, the wheelbase stretched, and the rake and trail increased to give the bike a more pronounced cruiser stance. This means frames, swingarms, and most bodywork are NOT compatible between 1984-1985 and 1986-1987 models. The 1986-1987 models also switched from dual front disc brakes to a single disc, so front brake calipers and rotors do not cross over.
