Used Sportsman ETX Parts

Used parts for the 2015 Polaris Sportsman ETX are carried at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. The Sportsman ETX was a single-year transitional model that replaced the carbureted Sportsman 400 with a fuel-injected 325cc ProStar single-cylinder engine. Positioned as Polaris's most affordable full-size utility ATV, the ETX served as a bridge between the discontinued 400 and the upcoming Sportsman 450 H.O. The ETX was produced for only one model year before being replaced by the 450 for 2016. Our Florida technicians pull each component from ETX donors, photograph it under a unique SKU, and ship free across the continental United States.

The Sportsman ETX uses a 325cc ProStar single-cylinder engine that is unique in the Sportsman lineup. This engine was not used in any other Sportsman model before or after the ETX's single production year. The 325cc displacement provides adequate power for light utility work and trail riding at a lower price point than the 450 or 570.

Despite the unique engine, the ETX shares many chassis and body components with other Sportsman models of the same era. Body panels, racks, seat, fenders, and some suspension components interchange with the Sportsman 450 H.O. (2016+) and Sportsman 570 (2014+) due to shared platform dimensions. The primary difference is the smaller engine and its associated mounting hardware, ECU, and exhaust system.

The ETX is NOT compatible with the older carbureted Sportsman 400 (2001-2014), which uses a completely different engine platform and chassis architecture. The ETX's ProStar EFI system, electronic controls, and modern chassis represent a generational leap from the carbureted 400.

Common Sportsman ETX failure points and replacement parts

Drive belt wear: The ETX's lower power output means the PVT belt experiences less stress than on higher-displacement Sportsman models. Belt life is typically longer, but regular inspection remains important as the belt is still a consumable item.

Battery drain during storage: The EFI system's standby circuits can drain the battery during extended storage. A trickle charger or battery disconnect switch prevents dead batteries between riding seasons.

EFI throttle body cleaning: Dusty operating conditions can introduce contaminants that foul the throttle body. Periodic cleaning maintains smooth engine response and reliable idle quality.

Parts availability (single-year production): The ETX's single-year production run makes engine-specific parts scarce on the used market. Chassis and body components are more readily available through shared compatibility with the 450 and 570 platforms. Sun Coast's used inventory helps fill the gap for ETX-specific engine components.

CV boot tears: Same vulnerability as all Sportsman models. The front CV joint boots can tear from trail debris, requiring prompt replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Is the Sportsman ETX the same as the Sportsman 400 or 450?

No. The ETX uses a unique 325cc ProStar single-cylinder engine with EFI. The Sportsman 400 (2001-2014) uses a carbureted 455cc engine in an older chassis. The Sportsman 450 H.O. (2016+) uses a 500cc ProStar engine with EFI. All three are distinct models with different engine displacements and different internal parts. The ETX's chassis dimensions are more similar to the 450 and 570 than to the old 400.

Q: Will Sportsman 570 or 450 body parts fit the ETX?

Many chassis and body components are shared between the ETX, 450, and 570 due to a common platform. Fenders, racks, seat, and some suspension hardware typically interchange. Engine-specific components (exhaust, ECU, fuel system) are unique to the ETX's 325cc engine. Verify specific part numbers before ordering.

Q: Why was the ETX only produced for one year?

The ETX served as a transitional model between the discontinued carbureted Sportsman 400 and the new Sportsman 450 H.O. that launched for 2016. The 450's larger 500cc ProStar engine provided better performance at a similar price point, making the 325cc ETX redundant in the lineup. The single production year makes ETX engine-specific parts uncommon, which is why Sun Coast's used parts inventory is particularly valuable for ETX owners.
