Sun Coast Cycle Sports maintains an inventory of inspected used parts for the 2002-2016 Triumph America, the entry-level cruiser in Triumph's Bonneville-based Modern Classics family. The America extends the Bonneville platform with a lengthened wheelbase, pullback handlebars, forward foot controls, and a lowered seat height designed specifically for the American cruiser market. Our Florida technicians disassemble each donor America, evaluate and photograph every component with a unique SKU, and ship free across the continental United States.
America generation and parts compatibility
| Years | Engine | Fuel System | Key Notes |
| 2002-2004 | 790cc air-cooled parallel twin | Keihin carburetors | First America; cruiser-styled Bonneville |
| 2005-2007 | 865cc air-cooled parallel twin | Keihin carburetors | Bore increase to 865cc |
| 2008-2016 | 865cc air-cooled parallel twin, 270-degree crank | EFI | Fuel injection; America LT touring variant added 2014 |
The America shares its engine entirely with the Bonneville, T100, Thruxton, Scrambler, and Speedmaster of the same era. All engine internals interchange within the same displacement and fuel system generation. The America's unique components are its cruiser-specific ergonomics: forward foot controls, pullback handlebars, wider rear tire (170mm vs 130mm on the Bonneville), lengthened swingarm, specific seat, and stepped dual exhaust. The frame is a modified version of the Bonneville cradle frame with altered geometry for the longer wheelbase and lower seat height.
The America LT (2014-2016) added a clear windscreen and leather saddlebags for light touring duty, but is mechanically identical to the base America of the same era.
The America was discontinued after 2016 when Triumph redesigned the Modern Classics lineup around liquid-cooled engines. The Speedmaster (2018+) is the spiritual successor on the new 1200cc platform. No parts from the 2018+ liquid-cooled Speedmaster fit the air-cooled America.
Common America failure points and replacement parts
Regulator/rectifier failure: The same R/R vulnerability shared across all air-cooled Bonneville-family models. Aftermarket MOSFET replacements are widely recommended.
Carburetor pilot jet clogging (2002-2007): The Keihin carburetors are prone to pilot jet blockage when the bike sits unused. Fuel stabilizer or carb draining for storage prevents the issue.
Forward control linkage wear: The America's forward foot controls use linkage rods and pivot points that develop play over time, causing sloppy shift feel and imprecise brake pedal action. Bushings and pivot hardware are serviceable items.
Rear tire clearance on wider aftermarket tires: The America's 170mm rear tire is wider than the standard Bonneville's 130mm. Some owners attempt to fit even wider tires, but the swingarm and fender clearance limit practical tire width to 170-180mm without modification.
Clutch cable fraying: Same vulnerability as the Bonneville. Regular inspection and replacement at 15,000-20,000 miles prevents unexpected failure.
Commonly replaced America parts
- Regulator/rectifier
- Forward foot control linkage and bushings
- Clutch cable
- Exhaust system (stepped dual pipes)
- Seat (single or two-up)
- Saddlebags and mounting hardware (LT variant)
- Carburetor rebuild kits (2002-2007)
- Rear tire and wheel (170mm specific)
Frequently asked questions
Q: Will standard Bonneville engine parts fit my America?
Yes. The America uses the same 790cc or 865cc parallel twin as the Bonneville, T100, Thruxton, Scrambler, and Speedmaster within the same displacement and fuel system era. Engine internals, gearbox, clutch, and primary drive interchange directly. The America's exhaust, forward controls, seat, and handlebars are model-specific.
Q: Can I convert an America to Bonneville ergonomics?
The America's frame geometry differs from the standard Bonneville (longer wheelbase, more rake), so while you can bolt on Bonneville handlebars and mid-mount foot controls, the riding position will not replicate a Bonneville exactly. The America was designed as a cruiser from the frame up, and the geometry is optimized for its forward-control layout.
Q: Are 2018+ Speedmaster parts compatible with my America?
No. The 2018+ Speedmaster uses Triumph's new 1200cc liquid-cooled engine in a completely different chassis. The air-cooled America and liquid-cooled Speedmaster share no mechanical components.
