Used parts for the 2003-present Triumph Speedmaster cruiser are carried at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. The Speedmaster has evolved from an air-cooled Bonneville-based custom to a liquid-cooled 1200cc platform, serving as Triumph's primary cruiser throughout the Modern Classics lineup. Parts from our Speedmaster donors are pulled at our Odessa, Florida shop, individually inspected and photographed, cataloged with unique SKUs, and shipped free within the lower 48.
Speedmaster generation and parts compatibility
The Speedmaster spans two completely different platforms.
| Years | Engine | Platform | Key Features |
| 2003-2004 | 790cc air-cooled parallel twin | Bonneville/carb | Forward controls, pullback bars, cruiser styling |
| 2005-2007 | 865cc air-cooled parallel twin | Bonneville/carb | Bore increase to 865; otherwise unchanged |
| 2008-2017 | 865cc air-cooled parallel twin, 270-degree crank | Bonneville/EFI | Fuel injection; EFI for Euro 3 |
| 2018+ | 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel twin (HT) | New Modern Classics | Complete redesign; shares engine with Bobber and T120 |
The air-cooled Speedmaster (2003-2017) shares its engine with all same-era Bonneville family models. Engine internals interchange freely within the same displacement and fuel system generation. The Speedmaster's cruiser-specific components (forward controls, handlebars, seat, exhaust, wider rear wheel) are shared with the America of the same era, as both models use the same cruiser-modified Bonneville chassis.
The 2018+ Speedmaster is a ground-up redesign on the 1200cc liquid-cooled platform shared with the Bonneville Bobber. The engine, frame, electronics, and bodywork are entirely new and share nothing with the air-cooled Speedmaster. The 2018+ Speedmaster's 1200cc "HT" engine internals interchange with the T120, Bobber, and Scrambler 1200.
Common Speedmaster failure points and replacement parts
Regulator/rectifier (air-cooled, 2003-2017): The same R/R vulnerability as all Bonneville-family models. MOSFET-type aftermarket replacements are the standard upgrade.
Forward control pivot wear (all years): Both the air-cooled and liquid-cooled Speedmasters use forward foot controls with linkage that develops play over time. Bushing and pivot hardware replacement restores precise shift and brake feel.
Coolant system monitoring (2018+): The liquid-cooled Speedmaster requires standard coolant maintenance: level checks, hose inspection, and periodic flush.
Cam chain tensioner (air-cooled models): The automatic cam chain tensioner wears over time, producing a rattle on startup. Same issue as all air-cooled Bonneville-family models.
Clutch cable fraying (air-cooled) / clutch drag (liquid-cooled): The air-cooled models share the Bonneville's clutch cable wear concern. The liquid-cooled models use a torque-assist clutch that can exhibit cold-weather drag.
Commonly replaced Speedmaster parts
- Forward foot controls and linkage hardware
- Regulator/rectifier (air-cooled models)
- Exhaust system (both eras)
- Seat (cruiser style, frequently customized)
- Saddlebags and mounting hardware
- Clutch cable (air-cooled) or clutch assembly (liquid-cooled)
- Cam chain tensioner (air-cooled)
- Rear shock absorbers
Frequently asked questions
Q: Are air-cooled and liquid-cooled Speedmaster parts interchangeable?
No. The 2003-2017 air-cooled Speedmaster and the 2018+ liquid-cooled Speedmaster are completely different platforms. The engines, frames, electronics, and bodywork share nothing between the two eras. When ordering parts, always specify whether your Speedmaster is the air-cooled (865cc) or liquid-cooled (1200cc) version.
Q: Does the 2018+ Speedmaster share parts with the Bonneville Bobber?
The 2018+ Speedmaster and Bobber share the same 1200cc liquid-cooled "HT" engine, so engine internals interchange. However, the two use different chassis: the Speedmaster has a conventional twin-shock rear suspension and cruiser geometry, while the Bobber uses a hardtail-look frame with hidden monoshock. Frame, swingarm, rear suspension, and bodywork are model-specific and do not cross over.
Q: Will air-cooled America parts fit my air-cooled Speedmaster?
The air-cooled America and Speedmaster share the same cruiser-modified Bonneville platform. Engine, gearbox, forward controls, and many chassis components interchange directly between the two models of the same year. The styling differences (handlebars, seat shape, tank badges, exhaust tips) are the primary distinguishing features. Many America and Speedmaster parts are cross-referenced under the same Triumph part numbers.
