Used Grizzly 550 Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports stocks used OEM parts for the Yamaha Grizzly 550, the mid-displacement utility ATV produced from 2009 through 2014. Powered by a 558cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine with Yamaha Fuel Injection, Ultramatic CVT transmission, and On-Command selectable 2WD/4WD with locking front differential, the Grizzly 550 filled the gap between the budget-oriented Grizzly 350 and the flagship Grizzly 700. Available with optional Electric Power Steering (EPS), the 550 offered big-Grizzly capability in a slightly more compact and affordable package. Parts from our inventory are inspected by our technicians and shipped individually photographed from our Florida facility.

Grizzly 550 generation and parts compatibility

The Grizzly 550 was produced from 2009 to 2014 with no major mechanical changes across its run. The 558cc fuel-injected engine, Ultramatic CVT, and On-Command 4WD system remained consistent throughout production. Yamaha offered base and EPS versions each year.

The Grizzly 550 shares significant platform commonality with the Grizzly 700 of the same era. Both use the same frame architecture, suspension design (independent double-wishbone front, independent rear), and many chassis components. The 550's engine is a reduced-bore version of the 700's 686cc single, sharing the same basic engine architecture with different displacement. Some engine-adjacent components, electrical parts, and chassis items may cross between the 550 and 700, but engine-specific parts (cylinder, piston, head) are displacement-specific.

Steering column recall (non-EPS models): Yamaha recalled approximately 20,000 non-EPS Grizzly 550 (2009-2010) and Grizzly 700 (2008-2010) ATVs due to a defect in the aluminum steering column support assembly that could crack under certain riding conditions, causing loss of steering control. The recall required replacement of the aluminum steering column support with a stronger steel unit. EPS models were not affected. Buyers of used non-EPS Grizzly 550s from 2009-2010 should verify the recall has been completed.

Common Grizzly 550 failure points and replacement parts

Steering column support cracking (2009-2010 non-EPS): The aluminum steering column support on non-EPS models can crack near the mounting area, resulting in reduced or lost steering control. This was addressed by Yamaha's recall campaign replacing the aluminum support with a steel unit. Verify recall completion on any used 2009-2010 non-EPS Grizzly 550.

CVT belt wear: The Ultramatic CVT belt is the primary drivetrain wear item. Mud, water intrusion, and heavy loads accelerate belt degradation. Regular inspection and proactive replacement prevent trail-side failures.

Fuel injection and throttle body deposits: While more reliable than the carbureted systems on older Grizzlies, the fuel injection throttle body can develop carbon deposits over time that affect idle quality. Periodic throttle body cleaning maintains smooth operation.

Wheel bearings and CV joints: The independent suspension and 4WD system use wheel bearings and CV joints at each corner that are subject to wear, especially in wet and muddy conditions. Torn CV boots allow contamination that rapidly destroys the joint.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does the Grizzly 550 share parts with the Grizzly 700?

The Grizzly 550 and 700 share the same frame architecture and many chassis, suspension, and electrical components. The 550's engine is a reduced-bore version of the 700's single-cylinder. Engine-specific parts (cylinder, piston, head) are displacement-specific, but many surrounding components interchange. Always confirm part numbers when crossing between 550 and 700.

Q: Was the Grizzly 550 affected by the steering column recall?

Yes. All 2009 and certain 2010 non-EPS Grizzly 550 models were included in Yamaha's steering column support recall. The aluminum steering column support could crack, causing loss of steering control. EPS-equipped models were not affected because they used a different, stronger steering column design from the factory.

Q: What replaced the Grizzly 550?

The Grizzly 550 was discontinued after 2014. Yamaha consolidated its utility ATV lineup around the Grizzly 700 (later Grizzly EPS) and the Kodiak 450/700 models, eliminating the 550 displacement class.
