Top 10 Motorcycle Brands 2020

Motorcycle brands now more than ever have to compete constantly. Sales are falling and there is more pressure than ever to stand out and grab the attention of both millennials and gen Xers. 2020 Probably didn’t see too many increases in sales, but there was definitely plenty to get excited about in terms of technology advancements. Without further ado, we bring to you the best Motorcycle brands of 2020.

The way we looked at ranking this list was divided into four categories all ranked out of 5:

Variety: Do the brands offer a variety of bikes, from cruisers to sport?

Looks: How does the lineup look? Is there variety? Any wow models?

Price: Does the brand offer competitive pricing for all budget types?

Wow: Overall WOW factor, does this brand stand out in any way?

All the scores are added up and then ranked accordingly.

10: Aprilia

This one hurts, because here at Suncoast we really do love Aprilia Motorcycles. The problem is, Aprilia is pretty dedicated to the racing circuit at the moment, and there is obviously not a lot of thought going into the civilian models. Not much variety, in both models and looks. Price has a little bit of a variety, but there isn’t much wow factor here. Still, Aprilia makes a good bike and we still love them for it.

9: (Tie) Suzuki

Another left field. As a big lover of Suzuki bikes, (my first motorcycle was a suzuki) I was really hoping for a better showing this year. Suzuki has some great price points, and offers bikes at any budget. However, there isn’t much to wow about in terms of looks or variety. Suzuki will need to revamp their look if they want to compete with the big boys. But hey, they still have the Hayabusa.

9: (Tie) Kawasaki

Hard to believe that one of the most popular manufacturers of motorcycles could be this low on the list, but Kawasaki failed to wow anywhere. Pricing is mediocre, and it appears they have gone all in on the sport market, as their cruiser models have taken a backseat. It isn’t that Kawasaki does anything bad per say, it’s just that they don’t seem to be doing anything to stand out.

8: Harley Davidson

Harley has the looks, and the variety, so why did it fall so low? Pricing mainly. Harley must be really proud of their units, because their pricing in no way is competitive with the higher ups on this list. There also isn’t much overall wow in their design, we would like to see some less expensive models to compete with Honda’s rebel and the BMW 310.

7: KTM

KTM has pretty bare bones variety. The looks also won’t win any awards. However, they have pricing down pat, and are one of the best bang for your bucks on the market. We would like to see more variety from 2021.

6: Ducati

Ducati brings a great variety to the table, and has some decent pricing tiers. There is some promise in the looks of the new models, but we would like to see them expand further. Also, some of the models seem to look similar. More variety in the actual design of the models will get Ducati into the top 5 for 2021.

5: BMW

A ton of great variety and some seriously unique models, BMW Motorrad has the potential to rise to the top. The pricing isn’t very competitive (as expected from BMW) and there isn’t as much wow factor for the price, but BMW is only a couple of steps away from the top.

4: Triumph

Woah! Wild card! Yes we are dead serious. Triumph has plenty of variety, and boasts some of the coolest looking models of the year. The Rocket's exhaust, and the Scrambler's perfect blend of modern mixed with vintage give it a great score and wow factor. If Triumph just had a little more variety on pricing, they would possibly be at number 1.

3: Yamaha

This is to be expected. Yamaha has been towards the top for a long time. This year is no different. Yamaha didn’t score any perfect ratings, but they scored near perfect in every category. A vast variety of models, Pricing tiers across the board, unique looks, and tons of wow factor helped get Yamaha a bronze medal.

2: Indian

This might surprise a lot of people, but Indian really outdid themselves in 2020, Indian scored perfect ratings in both looks, as well as wow factor. I mean have you seen them? Indian found the absolute perfect way to blend their classic look on a modern bike. It’s incredible. Don’t even get us started on the Dark horse either. If Indian can add a couple of more models at a lower price point, they will give the top spot a serious run for its money.

1: Honda

The do it all brand has hit the sweet spot. Offering tons of variety across the board, having some of the coolest looking bikes, and even hitting every price point perfectly, there isn’t much to really complain about. If Honda could have gained one point in wow factor, they would have had a perfect score across the board. It will be tough to take down Honda for 2021.
