Used TR650 Terra Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports stocks used parts for the Husqvarna TR650 Terra, a dual-sport adventure motorcycle produced during the brief BMW-ownership era of Husqvarna. Built from 2013 to 2014, the TR650 Terra features a 652cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine based on the BMW G650GS powerplant, producing 58 hp. Parts from donor machines are inspected by our technicians, photographed with individual SKU assignments, and ship from our Odessa, Florida location.

TR650 Terra generation and parts compatibility

The TR650 Terra had a single generation spanning the 2013-2014 model years with no significant mechanical changes between them. It was produced alongside the TR650 Strada, which is the road-oriented sibling with cast wheels (19-inch front, 17-inch rear) and standard ABS. The Terra uses wire-spoke wheels (21-inch front, 18-inch rear) and ABS was optional.

The TR650 engine is a heavily modified version of the BMW G650GS/F650GS single-cylinder engine. It shares basic architecture with the BMW platform, including the DOHC four-valve head and five-speed gearbox, but Husqvarna fitted a forged piston, higher compression (12.3:1), larger valves, modified camshafts, and revised fuel injection to produce roughly 10 additional horsepower over the stock BMW engine. Many engine internals and consumables are compatible with the BMW G650GS, making BMW parts a viable source for maintenance items. The frame, bodywork, suspension (Sachs 46mm USD fork), and electrical system are Husqvarna-specific and do not interchange with any BMW model. Terra and Strada share the same frame, engine, brakes, and most components. The primary differences are wheel sizes, tire types, suspension damping rates, and the ABS configuration.

Common TR650 Terra failure points and replacement parts

Fuel management system stalling (NHTSA recall): The 2013-2014 TR650 Terra and Strada were recalled for unexpected engine stalling caused by fuel management system component issues. NHTSA Campaign 16V-193 affected 1,015 units in the US. The recall was handled by KTM (which acquired Husqvarna from BMW in 2013) and involved an ECU software update. Some owners reported post-recall fueling issues, and ECM replacement parts have been extremely difficult to source.

Exhaust weld cracking: The stainless steel exhaust system can develop cracks around the weld joints, particularly at the header-to-mid-pipe connection. This is a known issue reported by multiple owners.

Engine paint flaking: The paint finish on the engine cases is prone to flaking and peeling, which is cosmetic but common across both Terra and Strada models.

Parts availability: Because the TR650 was discontinued after BMW sold Husqvarna to KTM/Pierer Industries, OEM parts supply has been challenging. The BMW G650GS engine commonality helps for engine consumables, but chassis and body parts are increasingly scarce, making used parts from donor machines a practical solution.

Commonly replaced TR650 Terra parts

  • ECU/ECM and fuel injection components
  • Exhaust system and header pipes
  • Brake pads and brake rotors
  • Bodywork, plastics, and tank shrouds
  • Clutch plates and clutch cable
  • Radiator and cooling system components
  • Instrument cluster and wiring
  • Suspension components (Sachs fork internals, rear shock)

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will BMW G650GS parts fit a TR650 Terra

Engine internals and many consumables (pistons, gaskets, valves, oil filters) share compatibility because the TR650 engine is based on the BMW G650GS powerplant. However, the Husqvarna-specific tuning means some components like camshafts, the ECU, and the fuel injection mapping are different. Frame, bodywork, suspension, and electrical components are entirely Husqvarna-specific and do not interchange with any BMW model.

Q: Are TR650 Terra and Strada parts interchangeable

The Terra and Strada share the same engine, frame, and most mechanical components. The differences are limited to wheels (spoke vs. cast, different sizes), tires, suspension damping calibration, and the ABS system (standard on Strada, optional on Terra). Most parts interchange freely between the two variants.

Q: Was the NHTSA stalling recall completed on my TR650

NHTSA Campaign 16V-193 covers all 2013-2014 TR650 Terra and Strada models. The recall required an ECU software update performed by an authorized dealer. If purchasing a used TR650, verify the recall was completed by checking the VIN at nhtsa.gov or contacting a Husqvarna dealer. Some owners have reported ongoing ECU-related issues even after the recall repair.
