The 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 models represent two distinct sub-generations. The 2005 revision brought new bodywork, fully adjustable inverted front forks (replacing conventional forks), radial-mount four-piston brake calipers, a new aluminum frame, and a 10kg weight reduction. Rectifier/regulator: The OEM regulator/rectifier is the most commonly reported electrical failure on the CBR600RR. Overheating leads to voltage regulation failure, killing the battery. Stator failure: Often accompanies or follows regulator failure. A failed regulator can send excessive voltage back to the stator, burning the windings. Replacing both the regulator and stator together is common practice when either fails.
