The Honda Reflex (NSS250) was a 249cc maxi-scooter sold in the US from 2001 to 2007, designed as the modern replacement for the Honda Helix (CN250). Powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with fuel injection (a first for Honda scooters at this displacement) and CVT automatic transmission, the Reflex offered improved handling, higher top speed, and a more modern design compared to the Helix it replaced. Known as the Forza in markets outside North America (not to be confused with the later Forza 300/350), the Reflex was a capable highway commuter and light tourer. Used Reflex parts at Sun Coast Cycle Sports are individually inspected and cataloged at our Odessa, Florida facility.
Reflex NSS250 generation and parts compatibility
The Reflex received no significant mechanical changes across its 2001-2007 US production run. All parts interchange freely across all model years. Honda offered only color changes between years. The Reflex was sold alongside the returning Helix from 2004 to 2007, but the two are completely different platforms with no parts compatibility.
The Reflex shares no parts with the Helix (CN250) despite being its designated replacement. The Reflex uses a different 249cc fuel-injected engine (the Helix uses a 244cc carbureted engine), a different frame, different bodywork, and a different CVT. The two were designed from scratch as separate platforms. The Reflex also shares no parts with any other Honda scooter (Metropolitan, Ruckus, PCX, etc.) or any Honda motorcycle. The Forza 300 (NSS300, 2014-2020 US) is a newer, larger-displacement scooter that does not share components with the Reflex.
Common Reflex failure points and replacement parts
CVT belt and roller wear: The CVT belt is the primary wear item, requiring replacement between 12,000-20,000 miles. On a Reflex that is now 17-24 years old, belt age is as much a concern as mileage. A belt that has been sitting for years without use should be replaced before riding regardless of visual condition.
Fuel injection system: The Reflex was one of Honda's early fuel-injected scooters. The fuel injector can develop carbon buildup over decades, causing rough idle or hesitation. The fuel pump can also weaken with age. Unlike carbureted scooters, FI system diagnosis requires a multimeter and some electrical knowledge. The ECU itself is generally reliable.
Brake disc warping: The Reflex uses disc brakes front and rear. The front disc can develop warping on high-mileage or heavily used examples, causing pulsation during braking. Replacement rotors and pads are common service items.
Body panel brittleness: At 17-24 years old, the Reflex's plastic body panels are increasingly brittle from UV exposure and age. Panels that could absorb a minor parking lot knock when new now crack on contact. Intact used body panels are the most commonly sought Reflex parts.
Coolant system aging: Hoses, thermostat, and water pump seals deteriorate with age. Overheating on a Reflex that ran fine when last parked is usually a coolant system component that failed during storage rather than an engine problem.
Commonly replaced Reflex parts
- CVT belt and variator rollers
- Body panels (aging and tip-over damage)
- Brake pads and rotors
- Fuel pump and injector
- Coolant hoses and thermostat
- Windscreen
- Battery
- Mirrors and levers
- Under-seat storage hinge
Frequently asked questions
Q: Does the Reflex share parts with the Helix
No. Despite the Reflex being the Helix's designated replacement, the two are entirely different platforms. Different engines (249cc FI vs 244cc carb), different frames, different CVTs, different bodywork. No parts interchange between them.
Q: Is the Honda Reflex the same as the Honda Forza
The Reflex (NSS250) was sold as the Forza in markets outside North America. They are the same scooter with different names. However, the later Forza 300 (NSS300, 2014-2020 US) is a completely different, newer platform that does not share parts with the Reflex/original Forza.
Q: Are all 2001-2007 Reflex parts the same
Yes. Honda made no mechanical changes across the Reflex's seven-year run. Only color options changed between model years. All parts interchange freely across the full production range.
