Used Lakota 300 Parts

This page covers used OEM parts for the Kawasaki Lakota 300 (KEF300), the sport ATV produced from 1995 through 2003. The Lakota 300 features a 290cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine with a five-speed manual transmission and chain drive in a lightweight sport chassis. Designed for recreational trail riding, the Lakota offers a simpler, more affordable entry into the sport ATV segment. Sun Coast Cycle Sports carries inspected Lakota 300 components as they become available, each individually cataloged and shipped from Florida.

Lakota 300 generation and parts compatibility

The Lakota 300 was produced as a single generation from 1995 through 2003 with minimal changes during its production run. The 290cc SOHC single-cylinder engine, five-speed manual transmission, and chain drive remained consistent across all model years. The Lakota replaced the earlier Kawasaki Bayou 300 in the sport category and offered more aggressive styling and suspension than the utility-oriented Bayou.

The Lakota 300's 290cc engine shares some design elements with the Bayou 300 engine but received enough modifications for the sport application that parts interchange should be verified on a case-by-case basis. The Lakota does not share parts with any other Kawasaki sport ATV (KFX400, KFX450R, KFX700).

All Lakota 300 parts interchange across all 1995-2003 model years. Annual changes were limited to graphics and minor cosmetic updates.

Common Lakota 300 failure points and replacement parts

Age-related deterioration: All Lakota 300 models are now 20+ years old. Rubber components, seals, hoses, and electrical connectors deteriorate with age. Gasket sets, seal kits, and rubber components are universally needed.

Carburetor maintenance: The single carburetor requires periodic cleaning, particularly on machines that sit unused. Carburetor rebuild kits are the most commonly requested maintenance parts.

Chain and sprocket wear: The chain drive system requires periodic replacement. Chain and sprocket sets are routine maintenance items on trail-ridden machines.

Electrical system: Older Lakota units can develop charging system issues. Stator and rectifier/regulator replacements are common electrical maintenance items.

Plastic bodywork: Two decades of use and UV exposure degrades the Lakota's plastic fenders and body panels. Replacement bodywork is increasingly difficult to source as these machines age.

Suspension wear: The Lakota's sport-oriented suspension sees harder use than utility quad suspension. Front and rear shock absorbers lose damping with age, and bushings wear in the swingarm and suspension linkage. Shock rebuilds and bushing kits are common maintenance items on trail-ridden machines.

Clutch wear: The manual transmission with cable-actuated clutch sees hard use in sport riding. Clutch plates, springs, and cable assemblies are periodic replacement items, particularly on machines ridden aggressively.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does the Lakota 300 share parts with the Bayou 300?

The Lakota 300's engine shares design heritage with the Bayou 300, and some internal components may cross over. However, the Lakota is a sport-oriented machine with different chassis, suspension, and bodywork from the utility Bayou. Always verify specific part numbers when cross-referencing between the two models.

Q: Are Lakota 300 parts still available?

Many OEM parts have been discontinued by Kawasaki. Used parts from donor machines are one of the most practical sources for maintaining these vintage sport ATVs. Sun Coast Cycle Sports stocks Lakota 300 components as they become available from salvage inventory.
