Used parts for the 2019-present Triumph Speed Twin 1200 are available at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. The Speed Twin bridges the gap between the 900cc Street Twin and the sportier Thruxton, pairing the 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel twin with upright roadster ergonomics, tapered handlebars, and a comfortable riding position. Each donor Speed Twin at our Florida facility is disassembled by trained technicians who photograph every component under a unique SKU and list it with complimentary continental U.S. shipping.
Speed Twin 1200 generation and parts compatibility
The Speed Twin 1200 has received two significant updates since its 2019 launch.
| Years | Engine | Forks | Brakes | Key Changes |
| 2019-2020 | 1200cc "HP" parallel twin, 96 hp | KYB conventional 41mm | Brembo 4-piston axial calipers, 305mm discs | Launch generation; ride modes, traction control, ABS |
| 2021-2024 | 1200cc "HP" parallel twin, 100 hp (Euro 5) | Marzocchi 43mm USD | Brembo M50 radial monobloc, 320mm discs | More power, lighter crank, inverted forks, radial brakes, new wheels |
| 2025+ | 1200cc "HP" parallel twin, 105 hp | Marzocchi 43mm USD (updated) | Brembo M50 | Cornering ABS/TC, RS variant with quickshifter and Ohlins rear |
The Speed Twin uses the same "High Power" version of the 1200cc engine found in the Thruxton R/RS, producing significantly more power than the T120's "High Torque" tune. Engine internals (crank, pistons, cylinders, gearbox, clutch) interchange with all 1200cc Triumph Modern Classics, though the HP cam profile and ECU map are specific to the Speed Twin and Thruxton. The 2021 update brought a lighter crankshaft with 17% less inertia, allowing a 500rpm higher rev limit.
The fork and brake upgrades at 2021 mean front-end components do NOT interchange between 2019-2020 and 2021+ models. The frame and swingarm dimensions are consistent across all years. Rear shocks, seat, bodywork, and most accessories interchange across the full production run.
Note: the Speed Twin 1200 is a completely different motorcycle from the Speed Twin 900 (which is the renamed Street Twin). The two share no parts despite the similar name.
Common Speed Twin 1200 failure points and replacement parts
Front brake disc warping (2019-2020): The first-generation axial Brembo calipers and 305mm discs can develop warping and uneven pad wear. Pulsation through the brake lever is the primary symptom. The 2021+ radial Brembo M50 calipers with 320mm floating discs resolved this issue.
KYB fork underdamping (2019-2020): The conventional KYB forks on the first generation lack adjustment and are considered soft and underdamped for spirited riding. Many owners upgrade to aftermarket cartridge inserts or spring kits. The 2021 switch to Marzocchi USD forks addressed this complaint.
Side stand locator difficulty: The side stand's small flip-out tab is a persistent ergonomic complaint across all Speed Twin model years. Aftermarket side stand foot extensions improve usability significantly.
Exhaust finish deterioration (2019-2020): The black-coated exhaust pipes on the first generation can show surface deterioration with heat cycling. The 2021+ switched to brushed stainless steel silencers.
Coolant system maintenance: Standard liquid-cooled maintenance applies: periodic coolant level checks and flush per the service schedule.
Commonly replaced Speed Twin 1200 parts
- Front brake discs and calipers (generation-specific)
- Fork assembly (KYB conventional or Marzocchi USD)
- Exhaust system (frequently upgraded)
- Rear shocks (commonly upgraded for damping adjustment)
- Seat (comfort and style upgrades)
- Side stand with extended foot
- Handlebars and bar-end mirrors
- Chain and sprocket kit
Frequently asked questions
Q: Is the Speed Twin 1200 the same as the Speed Twin 900?
No. The Speed Twin 1200 uses Triumph's 1200cc "High Power" liquid-cooled parallel twin (shared with the Thruxton). The Speed Twin 900 (formerly called Street Twin) uses a 900cc version of the engine. The two share no displacement-specific parts. Despite the similar naming, they are distinct motorcycles with different engines, power outputs, and chassis specifications.
Q: Will Thruxton R brake and fork components fit my Speed Twin?
The 2021+ Speed Twin uses the same Brembo M50 radial monobloc calipers and Marzocchi USD forks as the Thruxton R. These components interchange directly between the two models when matched by year. The 2019-2020 Speed Twin uses different (lower-spec) components that do not match the Thruxton R's specification. The Thruxton R's complete front end is a popular upgrade path for first-generation Speed Twin owners.
Q: Can I use Speed Twin engine parts in a T120 or Bobber?
The 1200cc engine block is shared across all 1200cc Modern Classics. Internal components like pistons, cylinders, gearbox gears, and clutch plates interchange. The Speed Twin's HP cam profile produces more peak power than the T120's HT tune, and installing Speed Twin cams into a T120 or Bobber is a documented performance upgrade (ECU retune required).
