Used SMAX Parts

Used OEM parts for the Yamaha SMAX (XC155) are available at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. The SMAX is Yamaha's 155cc maxi-style scooter, sold in the US since 2015 and known as the Majesty S in European markets. Powered by a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, four-valve single-cylinder engine producing approximately 15 horsepower, it sits between the Zuma 125 and the discontinued Majesty 400 in Yamaha's scooter hierarchy. Parts from verified donor machines are individually photographed and cataloged at our Odessa, Florida location.

SMAX generation and parts compatibility

The SMAX has been produced as a single continuous generation since its 2015 US introduction. Yamaha made minor updates for the 2017 model year, including improved passenger seat padding and the addition of an LED position light, but no structural, engine, or dimensional changes. All SMAX units from 2015 through the current model year share the same 155cc engine, steel underbone frame, CVT transmission, and wheel/brake specifications. Body panels, engine components, suspension parts, and electrical systems interchange freely across all SMAX model years.

The SMAX does not share its engine or frame with any other US-market Yamaha scooter. Its 155cc powerplant is specific to the XC155 platform. The SMAX competes most directly with the Honda PCX150, but no parts cross over between the two brands. The "SMAX" name connects it with Yamaha's TMAX and XMAX scooter families sold globally, but those are completely different platforms with larger engines.

Common SMAX failure points and replacement parts

Drive belt wear: The SMAX CVT belt is a routine maintenance item, typically needing replacement around 10,000-12,000 miles. The 155cc engine puts moderate stress on the belt, and riders who frequently carry passengers or ride at sustained highway speeds may see shorter belt life.

Rear shock softening: The SMAX uses a horizontally mounted monoshock positioned inside the chassis to maximize underseat storage space. This design works well but the shock can soften over time, particularly on commuter-duty machines with high mileage. Replacement requires some disassembly to access the internal mounting point.

Rear fender vibration: The large rear fender on the SMAX is a common source of rattling and vibration complaints at certain speeds. Mounting hardware loosens over time. While not a safety concern, fender assemblies and their mounting brackets are periodic replacement items.

Commonly replaced SMAX parts

  • CVT drive belt and variator
  • Body panels and cowling
  • Rear fender assembly
  • Brake pads and rotors (front and rear disc)
  • Windscreen
  • Seat assembly and underseat storage bin
  • Rear shock absorber
  • Mirrors, turn signals, and lighting

Frequently asked questions

Q: Are SMAX parts the same across all model years?

Yes, for all practical purposes. The 2017 update added passenger seat padding and an LED light but did not change any structural or mechanical components. Engine parts, bodywork, suspension, brakes, and electrical components are interchangeable across all SMAX model years from 2015 onward.

Q: Does the SMAX share parts with the Yamaha NMAX?

No. The SMAX (XC155) and NMAX (marketed primarily outside the US) are different platforms with different engines, frames, and components. The SMAX is also unrelated to the larger XMAX or TMAX despite the shared naming convention.

Q: Is the SMAX highway legal?

Yes. The 155cc displacement exceeds the 150cc threshold required for highway use in most US states. The SMAX can sustain 55-60 mph cruising speeds, making it a practical commuter for roads where higher speeds are required, unlike 50cc and some 125cc scooters that are restricted to surface streets.
