Used parts for the 2009-2017 Yamaha FZ6R are available at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. The FZ6R (known as XJ6 Diversion F in Europe) is a middleweight sport-touring bike using a 599cc inline-four derived from the YZF-R6S engine, detuned for accessible street performance. With 68 hp, a half fairing, upright ergonomics, and a low seat height, the FZ6R was one of Yamaha's most popular beginner-friendly sportbikes. The FZ6R replaced the FZ6/FZ6 Fazer in the North American market. Our Odessa, Florida technicians strip each FZ6R donor, photograph every component under a unique SKU, and list it with free shipping throughout the lower 48.
FZ6R generation and parts compatibility
| Years | Engine | Power | Key Features |
| 2009-2017 | 599cc inline-4, DOHC, 4-valve/cyl, FI | 68 hp | R6S-derived engine detuned; half fairing; upright bars; chain drive; ABS optional |
The FZ6R uses a detuned version of the 599cc inline-four from the YZF-R6S (2003-2005 R6 platform). Some engine internals may cross over between the FZ6R and R6S, though the FZ6R uses different cams, ECU mapping, and exhaust for its lower, more street-friendly power output (68 hp vs 123 hp on the R6S). The FZ6R does NOT share engine parts with the 2006+ high-revving R6.
The FZ6R also shares engine architecture with the earlier FZ6/FZ6 Fazer (2004-2009). Many engine internals interchange between the FZ6 and FZ6R. Frame and bodywork differ between the two, as the FZ6R uses a different chassis design.
The FZ6R remained largely unchanged throughout its 2009-2017 production run. Parts interchange freely across all model years. The FZ6R was eventually replaced in Yamaha's beginner-friendly lineup by the MT-07 and R7, which use the CP2 parallel-twin.
Common FZ6R failure points and replacement parts
Regulator/rectifier: The inline-four's charging system can develop R/R failures, causing overcharging or undercharging. Aftermarket MOSFET replacements are recommended as a preventive upgrade.
Chain and sprocket wear: Standard chain-drive maintenance. The FZ6R's moderate 68 hp provides reasonable chain life with regular lubrication and adjustment.
Clutch cable stretch: The cable-operated clutch can develop cable stretch over time, requiring periodic adjustment. Cable replacement at higher mileage restores precise clutch feel.
Fork seal leaks: The conventional (non-USD) forks develop seal leaks with age and mileage. The FZ6R's conventional fork design is less expensive to service than USD forks found on sportier models. Fork seal replacement restores damping performance and prevents oil from contaminating brake components. Riding in wet or dusty conditions accelerates seal deterioration.
Throttle body synchronization: The inline-four's four throttle bodies require periodic balancing for smooth idle and even power delivery across all cylinders. The FZ6R's moderate-output tune is less sensitive to synchronization than the high-revving R6, but periodic service maintains optimal running quality.
Fuel pump (age-related): The in-tank fuel pump can fail after extended service, causing no-start conditions or fuel starvation under load. Replacement is a standard age-related repair on older FZ6R models.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Does the FZ6R share engine parts with the R6?
The FZ6R shares engine architecture with the R6S (2003-2005 R6 platform). Some engine internals may cross over between the FZ6R and R6S. The FZ6R does NOT share engine parts with the 2006+ high-revving R6, which uses a completely different engine design with higher compression and different bore/stroke.
Q: Is the FZ6R the same as the FZ6?
The FZ6R replaced the FZ6 in North America. Both use variants of the same 599cc R6S-derived engine, and many engine internals interchange. Frame and bodywork differ. The FZ6R has a more upright riding position and different chassis from the FZ6.
Q: Is the FZ6R a good beginner bike?
The FZ6R is one of the most popular beginner sportbikes due to its manageable 68 hp, low seat height, forgiving power delivery, and comfortable upright ergonomics. The inline-four engine provides smooth power without the aggressive top-end rush of a full supersport. The half fairing offers wind protection for commuting and light touring.
