Used Ninja 300 400 Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports carries inspected used parts for the Kawasaki Ninja 300 (2013-2017) and Ninja 400 (2018+). The Ninja 300 uses a 296cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin producing approximately 39 horsepower, while the Ninja 400 stepped up to a 399cc parallel-twin with approximately 45 horsepower in a significantly lighter trellis frame that shed 18kg (40 lbs) compared to the 300. Both models serve as entry-level sportbikes and are among the most popular first motorcycles sold in North America. Each part is individually inspected, photographed, and assigned a unique SKU at our Odessa, Florida facility.

Ninja 300 and 400 generation and parts compatibility

ModelYearsEngineKey details
Ninja 300 (EX300)2013-2017296cc parallel-twin, FISteel perimeter frame, slipper clutch, ABS optional, 39hp
Ninja 400 (EX400)2018+399cc parallel-twin, FINew trellis frame (18kg lighter), 45hp, ABS optional, assist & slipper clutch

The Ninja 300 and Ninja 400 are different platforms. The Ninja 400 introduced a completely new trellis frame, a larger 399cc engine, and revised bodywork. No major components interchange between the two models. Within the Ninja 300 production run (2013-2017), parts interchange freely across all years. Within the Ninja 400 production run (2018+), parts also interchange freely with only minor cosmetic updates between years.

The Ninja 300 shares NO parts with the preceding Ninja 250R (2008-2012) despite similar appearance. The 300 uses a larger displacement engine and revised chassis. The Ninja 400 shares its platform with the Z400 naked bike: engine, frame, and many chassis parts interchange between the two, with bodywork being the primary difference.

Common Ninja 300/400 failure points and replacement parts

Fairing damage from drops: As popular first bikes, both the Ninja 300 and 400 frequently sustain cosmetic damage from low-speed drops during the learning process. Replacement fairings, mirrors, levers, and bar-end weights are the most commonly ordered parts for both models.

Chain stretch (Ninja 400): The Ninja 400's lightweight design and higher power output can lead to more rapid chain stretch than the 300, particularly during the break-in period. Frequent chain adjustment during the first 3,000 miles is important.

Rear shock limitations (Ninja 300): The Ninja 300's OEM rear shock is adequate for lighter riders but sags under heavier riders. Aftermarket shock options improve ride quality noticeably for riders over 170 pounds.

Clutch lever play (Ninja 400): Some Ninja 400 owners report excessive free play in the clutch lever that develops over the first few thousand miles. Cable adjustment resolves this, but replacement cables are sought if adjustment range is exhausted.

Commonly replaced Ninja 300/400 parts

  • Mirrors, levers, and bar-end weights
  • Chain and sprocket sets
  • Rear shock absorber (Ninja 300)
  • Brake pads and rotors
  • Windscreen
  • Exhaust system

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will Ninja 300 parts fit a Ninja 400?

No. The Ninja 400 uses a completely different trellis frame, a larger 399cc engine, and redesigned bodywork. Despite similar visual styling, no major components interchange between the two models.

Q: Can I use Z400 parts on my Ninja 400?

Yes, for most mechanical components. The Ninja 400 and Z400 share the same engine, trellis frame, wheels, brakes, and suspension. The differences are bodywork (full fairing vs naked), windscreen, and mirrors. Engine parts, brake components, and suspension interchange directly.

Q: Is the Ninja 300 still a good first bike?

The Ninja 300 remains one of the most recommended first sportbikes due to its manageable power output, low seat height, light weight, and forgiving handling characteristics. Used parts are plentiful due to the model's popularity, making maintenance affordable. The Ninja 400 offers more power and lighter weight for a modest step up in capability.
