Used Street Twin Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports stocks inspected used parts for the 2016-2022 Triumph Street Twin, the entry-level model in Triumph's liquid-cooled Modern Classics lineup. The Street Twin pairs a 900cc liquid-cooled parallel twin with a lightweight chassis, making it one of the most accessible modern retro bikes available. For the 2023 model year, Triumph rebranded the Street Twin as the Speed Twin 900. Each donor Street Twin at our Florida shop is broken down by trained technicians, with every component photographed, cataloged under a unique SKU, and shipped free across the continental U.S.

Street Twin generation and parts compatibility

The Street Twin spans 2016 through 2022, receiving a significant mid-cycle update in 2019.

YearsEnginePowerKey Changes
2016-2018900cc liquid-cooled parallel twin55 hp, 59 lb-ftFirst generation; ride-by-wire, ABS, traction control, torque-assist clutch
2019-2022900cc liquid-cooled parallel twin (updated)65 hp, 59 lb-ft10 hp increase via new intake, revised ECU; Brembo front brake, LED DRL

The 2019 update increased peak power from 55 to 65 hp through revised intake porting, new cam profile, and ECU recalibration. The engine block and crankcase are shared across 2016-2022, but the 2019+ intake, cams, and ECU map are specific to the updated version. Cylinders, pistons, gearbox, clutch, and most internal engine components interchange across all Street Twin years.

The Street Twin shares its 900cc engine with the Bonneville T100 (2017+), Street Scrambler (2017+), and Street Cup (2017-2018). Engine internals are identical across these 900cc models; each has unique ECU mapping, exhaust, and intake tuning. Chassis components are largely shared between the Street Twin, Street Cup, and Street Scrambler, with differences in wheel size, suspension settings, and ergonomic components (handlebars, footpegs, seat height).

The 900cc engine does NOT share parts with the 1200cc engine used in the T120, Bobber, Thruxton, and Speedmaster. Despite the family resemblance, the 900 and 1200 have different bore, stroke, cylinder head, and crankcase dimensions.

Common Street Twin failure points and replacement parts

Regulator/rectifier (early 2016-2017 production): Some early Street Twin production units experienced the same R/R overcharge or undercharge issue seen across the Modern Classics family. Later production units received an improved component.

Clutch drag in cold weather: The torque-assist clutch on the Street Twin can exhibit drag (difficulty finding neutral, clunky downshifts) when the oil is cold. This typically resolves within a few minutes of riding as the oil warms. Using the correct Triumph-specified oil viscosity minimizes the issue.

Fuel tank paint chipping (2016-2018): Some early Street Twin models experienced paint adhesion issues on the fuel tank, particularly along the tank edges where the rider's knees contact the tank. Tank knee pads and protective film prevent further damage.

Exhaust header discoloration: The stainless headers develop heat-related blue/gold discoloration, consistent with all liquid-cooled Triumph twins.

Rear shock preload range: The stock rear shocks have limited preload adjustment range, which can be inadequate for heavier riders or two-up riding. Aftermarket shocks with wider adjustment range are a popular upgrade.

Commonly replaced Street Twin parts

  • Exhaust system (most common aftermarket modification)
  • Seat (frequently upgraded for comfort or cafe racer style)
  • Handlebars and mirrors
  • Rear shocks (preload upgrade)
  • Regulator/rectifier (early production)
  • Side panels and tank accessories
  • Brake pads (Brembo caliper on 2019+)
  • Chain and sprocket set

Frequently asked questions

Q: Is the Street Twin the same bike as the Speed Twin 900?

Yes. For the 2023 model year, Triumph renamed the Street Twin to Speed Twin 900. The mechanical platform is the same 900cc liquid-cooled parallel twin in the same chassis. Parts from 2019-2022 Street Twins interchange with the 2023+ Speed Twin 900, as the rename was primarily a branding change with minor cosmetic updates.

Q: Will Bonneville T100 parts fit my Street Twin?

The T100 (2017+) and Street Twin share the same 900cc engine, so engine internals interchange directly. Chassis dimensions are similar but not identical: the T100 uses wire-spoked wheels and a slightly different seat height and exhaust routing. Some body panels and accessories cross over, but verify specific part numbers. The T100 has a 5-speed gearbox while the Street Twin also uses 5-speed, making transmission parts compatible.

Q: Can I upgrade my 2016-2018 Street Twin to the 2019+ power output?

The power increase came from revised intake porting, a new cam profile, and updated ECU mapping. Installing 2019+ cams and intake components into a 2016-2018 engine is possible, but requires an ECU retune to match. The simplest path to more power on a pre-2019 Street Twin is a Triumph-approved ECU tune combined with an aftermarket exhaust and air filter, which can achieve similar gains without internal engine modifications.
