Used Vinson LTA500 Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports stocks inspected used OEM parts for the Suzuki Vinson 500 (LT-A500F/LT-F500F), a mid-size utility ATV produced from 2002 through 2007. The Vinson runs a 493cc liquid-cooled SOHC single-cylinder engine and was offered in both automatic CVT (LT-A500F) and 5-speed manual (LT-F500F) configurations, each with selectable 2WD/4WD and a limited-slip front differential. Every Vinson part we carry is cleaned, inspected for damage and wear, assigned a unique SKU with individual photos, and shipped from our Florida facility.

Vinson 500 generation and parts compatibility

GenerationYearsEngineKey differences
Early2002493cc liquid-cooled SOHC singleMikuni 34mm carburetor. 12.5L fuel tank. Compression ratio 8.5:1. 2-speed automatic only. Drum rear brakes.
Revised2003-2007493cc liquid-cooled SOHC singleKeihin CVK36 carburetor. 19L fuel tank. Compression ratio 10.2:1. 5-speed manual option added. Hydraulic disc rear brakes. Slightly narrower rims.

The 2003 model year brought substantial updates: a larger carburetor, increased fuel capacity, higher compression, the addition of a manual transmission option, and upgraded rear brakes from drum to disc. Bodywork and frame components are largely shared across 2002-2007, but fuel system, carburetor, and rear brake components from the 2002 model do NOT fit the 2003-2007 models and vice versa.

Platform sharing: The Vinson 500 engine shares its basic architecture with the earlier Suzuki QuadMaster 500 and the later KingQuad 500 that replaced it in 2008. Some engine internals may cross over to these related models, but carburetor specifications, intake systems, and electronic components differ. The Vinson 500's engine was also supplied to Arctic Cat for use in some of their 500cc ATVs during this period. Frame and bodywork do not interchange between Suzuki and Arctic Cat models.

Common Vinson 500 failure points and replacement parts

Vacuum petcock and fuel delivery issues (all years): The vacuum-operated petcock is the single most commonly reported failure on the Vinson 500. When the petcock diaphragm fails, raw fuel bypasses into the crankcase, diluting the oil. Symptoms include gasoline smell in the oil, hard starting, and hydro-lock on startup. Converting to a manual petcock is the standard community fix.

Carburetor slide diaphragm failure (all years): The Keihin CVK36 carburetor uses a vacuum-operated slide with a rubber diaphragm. When this diaphragm tears or develops pinholes, the slide cannot fully open, limiting the engine to partial throttle. The Vinson will idle and run at low RPM but refuses to rev out. This is an extremely common complaint and is often misdiagnosed as a jetting or fuel delivery problem.

Sub-transmission gear seizure (2002-2007): The Vinson's sub-transmission (which provides high, low, and reverse ranges) can suffer from a seized bushing on the low-range gear. When the bushing seizes to the splined shaft, low range stops working entirely while high range and 4WD continue to function normally. The repair requires removing the sub-transmission and replacing the gear, bushing, and snap ring.

Gear position sensor failure (automatic models): The automatic transmission Vinson uses a gear position sensor that signals the ECU which gear the CVT is in. When this sensor fails, the ATV may refuse to start or display incorrect gear indicators. The sensor is located on the transmission housing and is a straightforward replacement.

Commonly replaced Vinson 500 parts

  • Fuel petcock and vacuum lines
  • Carburetor and slide diaphragm
  • CVT drive belt (automatic models)
  • Starter motor and starter relay
  • Sub-transmission gears and bushings
  • Gear position sensor (automatic models)
  • Plastic fenders and body panels
  • Front CV axles and boots

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will 2002 Vinson 500 parts fit a 2003-2007 model?

Frame and body components are largely shared across all Vinson years. However, the 2002 model uses a different carburetor (Mikuni 34mm vs. Keihin CVK36), has a smaller fuel tank, drum rear brakes instead of disc, and lacks the 5-speed manual transmission option. Fuel system, rear brake, and carburetor parts from 2002 do not fit 2003-2007 models.

Q: Are Vinson 500 and KingQuad 500 parts interchangeable?

The KingQuad 500 (2008+) replaced the Vinson in Suzuki's lineup and uses fuel injection instead of a carburetor. While the engine architecture is related, the switch to EFI means the fuel system, intake, wiring harness, and ECU are completely different. Some engine internals and frame-mounted components may cross over, but the two models should be treated as separate platforms for parts sourcing purposes.

Q: Why does my Vinson 500 smell like gasoline in the oil?

This is almost always caused by a failed vacuum petcock diaphragm allowing fuel to flow continuously into the carburetor, which then overflows into the crankcase. Stop riding immediately, replace the petcock (or convert to manual), drain and replace the oil, and check for hydro-lock damage before restarting.
