Used 00-01 ZX9R Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports carries inspected used parts for the 2000-2001 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-9R E-model. The E-model brought a visual refresh with distinctive twin headlights and a separate ram-air intake, along with engine improvements including shorter carburetors, a higher compression ratio (12.2:1 vs 11.5:1), larger-diameter header pipes, and a revised intake cam for increased midrange torque. Output climbed slightly to 144 horsepower. The frame was stiffened with larger front engine mounting bolts and aluminum-bushed rear engine mounts replacing the C-model's rubber units. Parts are cataloged with dedicated SKUs and ship from our Florida location.

The 2000 and 2001 models are mechanically identical and share all components. The E-model shares its core engine architecture with the 1998-1999 C-model, so many engine internals cross over. However, the E-model received shorter carburetors, larger headers, and higher compression, so fuel delivery and exhaust components are E-model specific. Bodywork does not interchange between C-model and E-model due to the twin-headlight redesign.

The E-model also does not share bodywork with the 2002-2003 F-model, which received further styling changes including a new tail section, 320mm brake rotors (up from the E's 296mm), and four-piston calipers replacing the six-piston units.

Common 00-01 ZX-9R failure points and replacement parts

Six-piston brake calipers: The E-model retained the Tokico six-piston front calipers that plagued the C-model with heavy feel and corrosion issues. The same Nissin four-piston caliper swap (from Suzuki RF900/Bandit 1200) applies here and is widely recommended. The 2002 F-model finally addressed this by switching to four-piston calipers and larger 320mm rotors.

Charging system: The stator and rectifier/regulator remain common failure items. The ZX-9R's car-type generator with carbon brushes adds the brushes themselves as a wear item that can be replaced inexpensively if caught before the generator itself is damaged.

Lean jetting: The revised carburetors still suffer from emissions-mandated lean jetting that produces midrange flat spots. Rejetting improves response, and many owners find that the E-model responds better to jetting changes than the C-model due to its revised intake design.

Suspension wear: Both fork internals and the rear shock degrade with age and mileage. Fork revalving and an aftermarket rear shock transform the handling on E-models with tired OEM suspension.

Commonly replaced 00-01 ZX-9R parts

  • Front brake calipers (upgrade to four-piston)
  • Stator, generator brushes, and rectifier/regulator
  • Carburetor jets and rebuild kits
  • Fork internals and rear shock
  • Fairings and body panels
  • Steering head bearings
  • Chain and sprocket sets
  • Coolant hoses and radiator

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will 1998-1999 C-model engine parts fit a 2000-2001 E-model?

Many internal engine components are shared since the E-model engine is an evolution of the C-model's architecture. Pistons, crankshaft, and transmission gears are largely interchangeable. The key differences are shorter carburetors, larger header pipes, higher compression (different head gasket/piston crown), and a revised intake cam on the E-model.

Q: Can I fit 2002-2003 F-model four-piston brakes on my E-model?

The F-model moved to 320mm rotors with four-piston calipers, while the E-model uses 296mm rotors with six-piston calipers. A direct swap requires changing rotors, calipers, and potentially caliper brackets. The more common upgrade path for E-model owners is fitting Nissin four-piston calipers from a Suzuki RF900/Bandit 1200, which bolt directly onto the existing mounting points.
