Used parts for the 2020-present Yamaha MT-03 are available at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. The MT-03 is the naked roadster version of the YZF-R3, sharing its 321cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine in an upright, street-focused chassis. With 42 hp, low weight, and accessible ergonomics, the MT-03 is an ideal entry-level naked bike for new riders and urban commuters who prefer upright handlebars over the R3's clip-ons. Our Odessa, Florida technicians strip each MT-03 donor, photograph every component under a unique SKU, and list it with free shipping throughout the lower 48.
MT-03 generation and parts compatibility
| Years | Engine | Power | Key Features |
| 2020+ | 321cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin, DOHC, 4-valve | 42 hp | USD forks; upright bars; dual front disc; ABS standard; chain drive |
The MT-03 shares its 321cc parallel-twin engine with the YZF-R3. Engine internals interchange completely between the two models. The MT-03 uses the same engine, frame architecture, and many chassis components as the Gen 2 R3 (2019+), with upright handlebars replacing the R3's clip-ons and naked bodywork replacing the sport-bike fairing.
The MT-03 does NOT share parts with the MT-07 or MT-09 despite the similar "MT" naming convention. The MT-03 uses a 321cc twin, the MT-07 uses a 689cc CP2 twin, and the MT-09 uses an 847/890cc CP3 triple. Each is a completely different platform with no parts interchange.
The US-market MT-03 was introduced for 2020. Earlier non-US MT-03 models (2006-2014) used a completely different 660cc single-cylinder engine and share no parts with the current 321cc twin.
Common MT-03 failure points and replacement parts
Generally reliable (new platform): The MT-03's 321cc twin has an excellent reliability record inherited from the R3 platform, which has been in production since 2015. No widespread systemic issues have been reported.
Chain and sprocket wear: Standard chain-drive consumable. The 42 hp output provides gentle chain stress and long service life with proper maintenance.
Fork seal leaks (USD forks): The inverted front forks can develop seal leaks at higher mileage, particularly on bikes used in wet or dusty conditions.
Battery maintenance: The small battery can discharge during extended storage periods between riding seasons. A quality trickle charger prevents dead batteries and extends overall battery life.
Cosmetic damage (beginner use): The MT-03's beginner-friendly positioning means damage from low-speed tips is common. Unlike the fully faired R3, the MT-03's naked design leaves the engine and frame exposed to ground contact during falls. Frame sliders, engine guards, and crash protection are strongly recommended for new riders learning low-speed maneuvers and parking lot skills. Replacement levers, mirrors, and bar-end weights are the most frequently ordered parts after minor incidents.
Rear shock (stock adequacy): The stock rear shock is adequate for lightweight solo riders but can feel underdamped for heavier riders or those carrying a passenger. An aftermarket shock upgrade improves ride quality and handling confidence for riders above 180 lbs or those who ride two-up regularly.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Does the MT-03 share parts with the R3?
Yes. The MT-03 and YZF-R3 (Gen 2, 2019+) share the same 321cc engine, frame architecture, and many mechanical components. The MT-03 uses upright handlebars and naked bodywork; the R3 has clip-ons and full sport-bike fairings. Engine parts interchange completely between the two models.
Q: Is the MT-03 related to the MT-07?
Only in Yamaha's "MT" naming convention. The MT-03 (321cc twin) and MT-07 (689cc CP2 twin) are completely different platforms with different engines, frames, and components. No parts interchange between the two.
Q: Is the current MT-03 the same as the older European MT-03?
No. The current MT-03 (2020+ US, 321cc parallel-twin) is a completely different motorcycle from the earlier European MT-03 (2006-2014, 660cc single-cylinder). No parts interchange between the two. The current model shares its engine with the YZF-R3; the older model used a unique single-cylinder engine.
