Used OEM parts for the Indian FTR 1200 are available at Sun Coast Cycle Sports. Introduced in 2019 and inspired by the championship-winning FTR750 flat track racer, the FTR is Indian Motorcycle's sport-naked platform powered by a 1,203cc liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin producing approximately 121 horsepower and 87 ft-lbs of torque. Developed in collaboration with Swissauto using the Scout V-twin as a starting point, the FTR engine features a revised bore and stroke, high-compression heads, dual throttle bodies, and a low-inertia crankshaft for sharp throttle response. Available in FTR, FTR S, FTR Rally, and FTR R Carbon variants, the model competes with the Ducati Monster and BMW R nineT. All parts are inspected, individually cataloged, and ship from our Florida facility.
FTR 1200 generation and parts compatibility
| Model | Years | Engine | Key notes |
| FTR 1200 / FTR 1200 S | 2019-2020 | 1,203cc liquid-cooled V-twin, ~120 hp | 19"/18" wheels (flat track sizing), Dunlop DT3-R tires |
| FTR / FTR S / FTR Rally | 2021-present | 1,203cc liquid-cooled V-twin, ~121 hp | Switched to 17"/17" wheels, Metzeler Sportec tires, steeper head angle |
| FTR R Carbon | 2021-present | 1,203cc liquid-cooled V-twin, ~121 hp | Top spec with Akrapovic exhaust, carbon bodywork, fully adjustable suspension |
All FTR variants share the same engine, frame, and core mechanical platform. The significant update came in 2021 when Indian switched from flat-track-inspired 19"/18" wheels to conventional 17"/17" wheels, changed the tire specification from semi-knobby Dunlops to sport-oriented Metzeler Sportec rubber, and steepened the steering geometry. This transformed the FTR's on-road handling characteristics substantially. The 2019-2020 and 2021+ models have different wheel sizes, suspension geometry, and tire fitment, so wheels and suspension components do not cross between these two eras.
The FTR engine is derived from the Indian Scout's 1,133cc V-twin but was extensively modified by Swissauto with a revised bore/stroke yielding 1,203cc, high-compression cylinder heads, dual throttle bodies, magnesium engine covers, and a low-inertia crankshaft. While the Scout engine was the starting point, the FTR engine should be treated as its own platform for parts sourcing. Some lower-end components (cases, transmission) may share commonality, but head, top-end, and intake components are FTR-specific.
Common FTR 1200 failure points and replacement parts
Throttle response calibration (2019-2020): The original FTR 1200 received criticism for abrupt throttle response, particularly at low RPM in Sport mode. Indian addressed this with ECU recalibration for the 2021+ models, improving low-speed rideability. Owners of 2019-2020 models can have the updated ECU mapping applied by a dealer.
Fuel tank size limitation: The FTR's 13-liter (3.4 gallon) fuel tank, located under the seat for mass centralization, limits range to approximately 100-120 miles depending on riding style. This is a design characteristic rather than a failure, but it drives frequent fuel stops and is the most common ownership complaint.
Rear cylinder deactivation (2021+): The rear cylinder deactivation system added in 2021 to manage heat at idle can occasionally produce rough transitions. ECU updates address most reported issues.
Chain drive maintenance: Unlike the belt-drive Scout, the FTR uses a chain final drive that requires regular cleaning, lubrication, and tension adjustment. Chain and sprocket sets are standard maintenance items.
Commonly replaced FTR 1200 parts
- Chain and sprocket set
- Exhaust system (stock and aftermarket including Akrapovic)
- Brake pads and rotors (Brembo)
- Bodywork panels and tank covers
- Suspension components (Sachs fully adjustable on S/R Carbon)
- Handlebars and controls
- Wheels (17" sport or 19"/18" flat track depending on era)
- Seat
- Lighting and turn signals
Frequently asked questions
Q: Does the FTR share engine parts with the Indian Scout
The FTR engine was derived from the Scout's 1,133cc V-twin but was extensively reworked by Swissauto to achieve 1,203cc displacement with different bore, stroke, head design, and intake. Some lower-end engine components (cases, transmission gears) may share commonality, but cylinder heads, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, and intake system are FTR-specific. Do not assume Scout parts fit the FTR without part number verification.
Q: Will 2019-2020 FTR wheels fit a 2021+ model
No. The 2019-2020 FTR used 19-inch front / 18-inch rear wheels with flat-track-inspired sizing, while the 2021+ models switched to 17-inch front and rear for sport-oriented handling. The wheel sizes, suspension geometry, and brake rotor dimensions differ between these two eras. Tires are also different specifications.
Q: What is the difference between the FTR variants
The base FTR has the fewest features, the FTR S adds a touchscreen display and riding modes, the FTR Rally retains the 19"/18" flat-track wheels and more upright ergonomics, and the FTR R Carbon adds Akrapovic exhaust, carbon fiber bodywork, and fully adjustable Ohlins suspension. All variants share the same 1,203cc engine. The Rally's different wheel sizes make its suspension and wheel components incompatible with the S and R Carbon.
