Sun Coast Cycle Sports offers inspected used parts for the Honda VTX1300, manufactured from 2003 through 2009. Available in S (spoke wheels, 2003-2007), C (custom, cast wheels, 2004-2009), R (retro, cast wheels, 2005-2009), and T (tourer, 2008-2009) variants, the VTX1300 is powered by a 1312cc liquid-cooled 52-degree SOHC V-twin with a single-pin crankshaft, single 38mm CV carburetor, five-speed transmission, and shaft final drive. This was Honda's mid-size muscle cruiser bridging the gap between the Shadow 750 and the VTX1800. All VTX1300 parts at Sun Coast are cataloged with unique SKUs, photographed individually, and ship from our Odessa, Florida location.
VTX1300 generation and parts compatibility
The VTX1300 engine was mechanically consistent across its entire 2003-2009 production run. All S, C, R, and T variants use the same carbureted 1312cc engine, five-speed transmission, and shaft drive. Engine internals, carburetor, clutch, and drivetrain components interchange freely across all VTX1300 models regardless of letter designation. The 2008 models received a restyled two-into-two exhaust system with more compact mufflers, but the exhaust header dimensions and mounting points remained compatible.
The differences between variants are primarily cosmetic and ergonomic. The S has wire-spoke wheels and floorboards; the C has cast alloy wheels and a lower, more aggressive profile with mid-mount pegs; the R has retro-styled cast wheels and valanced fenders; and the T adds factory saddlebags, windshield, and passenger backrest to the R platform. Frames are shared across all models. Wheels interchange within the cast-wheel group (C, R, T) and the wire-spoke group (S) but not between them due to different hub and axle configurations.
The VTX1300 engine is the carbureted predecessor to the fuel-injected VT1300 platform (Fury/Sabre/Stateline/Interstate, 2010+). The basic block architecture is shared, but the fuel systems are incompatible. The VTX1300 does NOT share engine components with the VTX1800, which is a completely different engine design with fuel injection, a dual-pin crankshaft, and linked braking.
Common VTX1300 failure points and replacement parts
Fuel control valve diaphragm (2007-2008): NHTSA Campaign 08V141000 covered 2007-2008 VTX1300 models (along with VT600 and VT750 units) for an improperly manufactured fuel valve diaphragm that could drip fuel, posing a fire risk. Total affected units across all three model lines: 38,934. Dealers replaced the diaphragm at no cost.
Carburetor icing and cold-start issues: The VTX1300 uses a manual choke and a single carburetor heated by engine coolant. In cold weather, the carburetor can be slow to warm, causing rough idle and hesitation. Proper choke use during warm-up resolves this. Bikes that have sat with old fuel need carburetor cleaning before they will run reliably.
Stator and regulator/rectifier: Like most Honda cruisers, the VTX1300 can develop charging system issues with age. The regulator/rectifier and its wiring connector are the most common failure points.
Water pump seal (occasional): Some VTX1300 owners have reported water pump seal failures that cause a small coolant leak at the pump housing. While not as widespread as on the VTX1800, it is worth monitoring on higher-mileage bikes.
Commonly replaced VTX1300 parts
- Carburetor rebuild kit and fuel valve diaphragm
- Stator and regulator/rectifier
- Exhaust system and mufflers
- Brake pads (front 336mm disc, rear 296mm disc)
- Shaft drive seals and fluid
- Starter relay
- Saddlebags, windshield, and backrest (Tourer accessories)
- Seats and passenger components
Frequently asked questions
Q: Are VTX1300 S, C, R, and T parts interchangeable
Yes for engine, transmission, shaft drive, brakes, and frame components. All four variants use identical mechanicals. Wheels interchange within the cast group (C/R/T) and within the spoke group (S). Bodywork like fenders and side covers is variant-specific due to different styling, but mounting points are shared since the frame is the same.
Q: Does the VTX1300 share parts with the VTX1800
No. Despite similar names, these are completely different platforms. The VTX1800 has a larger 1795cc engine with fuel injection, a dual-pin crankshaft, a hydraulic clutch, and a linked braking system. The VTX1300 has a 1312cc engine with a carburetor, single-pin crankshaft, cable clutch, and standard unlinked brakes. No significant parts interchange between them.
Q: Can I use VT1300 (Fury/Stateline) parts on my VTX1300
The VT1300 (2010+) is a direct evolution of the VTX1300, but the fuel systems are different (fuel injection vs carburetor). Some deep engine internals may be compatible, but the wiring harness, ECU, throttle body, and exhaust are not interchangeable. Frames and bodywork are entirely different between the two generations.
