Used VTX1800 Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports carries inspected used parts for the Honda VTX1800, produced from 2002 through 2008. At launch, the VTX1800's 1795cc liquid-cooled 52-degree V-twin was the largest-displacement production V-twin in the world. Available across multiple variants including the C (Classic), R/S (Retro, spoke or cast wheels), N (Neo-Retro), F (performance), and T (Tourer), the VTX1800 features fuel injection (PGM-FI), a dual-pin offset crankshaft, five-speed transmission, shaft final drive, and Honda's linked braking system. All VTX1800 inventory at Sun Coast is individually reviewed by our powersports team, photographed, and ships from Odessa, Florida.

VTX1800 generation and parts compatibility

VariantYearsKey features

VTX1800S (Retro, spoke)2002-2008Wire-spoke wheels (tube tires), valanced fenders, two-into-two exhaust
VTX1800N (Neo-Retro)2004-2008Rune-inspired styling, cast wheels
VTX1800F (performance)2005-2008Low-profile radial tires, cast alloy wheels, LCD tach, sportier stance
VTX1800T (Tourer)2007-2008Factory saddlebags, windshield, passenger backrest

All VTX1800 variants share the same fuel-injected 1795cc engine, five-speed transmission, shaft drive, and linked braking system throughout the 2002-2008 run. Engine internals, fuel injection, ECU, hydraulic clutch, and drivetrain components interchange across all letter designations. Frames are shared across the lineup. The primary differences between variants are wheels (cast vs spoke, standard vs radial), bodywork, handlebars, and seating position. Cast wheels do not interchange with spoke wheels due to different hub designs. The two-into-one exhaust (C model) and two-into-two exhaust (R/S/N/F/T) are not interchangeable without matching headers and mounting hardware.

The VTX1800 does NOT share parts with the VTX1300. Despite both being VTX-branded Honda cruisers, they have completely different engines, frames, braking systems, and drivetrains. The VTX1800 uses fuel injection, a hydraulic clutch, and linked brakes; the VTX1300 uses a carburetor, cable clutch, and standard unlinked brakes.

Common VTX1800 failure points and replacement parts

Fuel pressure regulator (2002-2004, some early 2005): The fuel pressure regulator on early VTX1800s has a high failure rate. When it fails, motor oil can leak into the fuel system, washing lubricant from the cylinder walls and potentially causing engine damage. Replacement with an updated FPR is strongly recommended on any 2002-2005 bike where this service has not been documented.

Side stand spring bolt (2002): NHTSA Campaign 04V564000 covered 12,866 units for a side stand washer that could deform, causing the bolt to flex and break. A retracted stand could drop while riding and activate the ignition cut-off, stalling the engine without warning. Dealers installed an improved washer, bolt, and nut at no charge.

Swingarm weld (2002, limited production): NHTSA Campaign 09V362000 covered 688 VTX1800 units manufactured between August 14 and October 4, 2001, for a swingarm that may not have been properly welded. Dealers inspected and replaced swingarms as necessary.

Water pump seal: Water pump seal failures have been reported on various VTX1800 model years, causing coolant leaks at the pump housing. This is more common on higher-mileage bikes and is a straightforward repair.

Regulator/rectifier: The VTX1800's high-output charging system generates significant heat, and the regulator/rectifier can fail. Aftermarket MOSFET-type replacements run cooler and are a common upgrade.

Commonly replaced VTX1800 parts

  • Fuel pressure regulator (early models)
  • Water pump and water pump seal
  • Regulator/rectifier
  • Brake pads (linked braking system)
  • Shaft drive seals and fluid
  • Exhaust system and mufflers
  • Wheels and wheel bearings
  • Saddlebags and windshield (Tourer accessories)

Frequently asked questions

Q: Are VTX1800 C, R, S, N, F, and T parts interchangeable

Engine, transmission, shaft drive, linked braking system, and frame components are shared across all VTX1800 variants. The main differences are wheels (cast vs spoke vs radial), exhaust configuration (two-into-one on C, two-into-two on others), and bodywork. Wheels are only interchangeable within their type group.

Q: Does the VTX1800 share anything with the VTX1300

No. These are completely different platforms. The VTX1800 has a 1795cc fuel-injected engine with a dual-pin crankshaft, hydraulic clutch, and linked brakes. The VTX1300 has a 1312cc carbureted engine with a single-pin crankshaft, cable clutch, and standard brakes. No significant parts interchange exists between them.

Q: What is the linked braking system on the VTX1800

Honda's linked braking system on the VTX1800 connects the front and rear brakes so that the foot brake pedal activates both the rear caliper and a portion of the front brake. The hand lever operates the remaining front brake pistons. This system uses a proportioning valve and specific brake lines that differ from standard unlinked systems. Brake pads, calipers, and hydraulic components are specific to the linked system and do not interchange with unlinked setups from other models.
