Used Zuma 50cc Parts

Sun Coast Cycle Sports carries used OEM parts for the Yamaha Zuma 50 (YW50/CW50), Yamaha's long-running 49cc sport scooter produced from 1989 through the present day. Known internationally as the BWs 50 and marketed by MBK as the Booster, the Zuma 50 has spanned three distinct generations with fundamentally different powertrains. Every Zuma 50 component on our shelves is pulled from a verified donor, photographed against its own SKU, and shipped direct from our Odessa, Florida facility.

Zuma 50 generation and parts compatibility

GenerationYearsEngineKey differences
Gen 1 (CW50)1989-200149cc 2-stroke, vertical MinarelliNon-"bug-eye" styling, carbureted, air-cooled with fan assist. Not sold in US 1991-1994.
Gen 2 (YW50)2002-201149cc 2-stroke, horizontal Minarelli"Bug-eye" dual headlights, redesigned frame, horizontal engine layout. Not sold in US 2006-2007 due to emissions regulations.
Gen 3 (YW50F/FX)2012-present49cc 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC 3-valve, fuel-injectedComplete powertrain change. Shares engine with C3 XF50 and Vino. Fuel tank relocated to floorboard. Zuma 50FX single-headlight variant added 2014.

Parts compatibility across these three generations is extremely limited. The Gen 1 CW50 vertical Minarelli engine shares nothing with the Gen 2 horizontal Minarelli, though both are 2-stroke platforms with extensive aftermarket support. The Gen 3 four-stroke is an entirely different powertrain with no crossover to either 2-stroke generation. Bodywork is generation-specific throughout. Within Gen 2, the 2008-2011 models added emissions equipment that slightly altered exhaust and intake routing compared to 2002-2005 units, but most body panels, suspension components, and electrical parts interchange freely across 2002-2011.

Common Zuma 50 failure points and replacement parts

Fuel pump (Gen 3 Zuma 50F): Gen 3 Zuma 50F models with floorboard-mounted fuel tanks rely on electric fuel pumps, which can fail and cause stalling, particularly on high-mileage units. A recall affected some 2007 units on the related C3/Vino platform for fuel pump issues, and the same basic pump design carries into the Zuma 50F.

Variator and drive belt wear (all generations): The CVT belt and variator rollers are the primary wear items on every Zuma 50. The 2-stroke models are especially popular for performance modifications involving aftermarket variator kits, but both stock and modified setups require periodic roller and belt replacement, typically every 3,000-5,000 miles.

Autolube oil injection (Gen 1 and Gen 2): The 2-stroke oil injection system can develop leaks or pump failures on older units. Many owners convert to premix fueling and bypass the oil pump entirely, making the original oil pump assembly a common parts request for those maintaining a stock setup.

Starter motor and battery (all generations): The small battery in the Zuma 50 drains quickly if the scooter sits unused. Starter motor brushes wear on high-mileage units. The Gen 3 four-stroke model draws more from the electrical system than its 2-stroke predecessors, making battery health more critical.

Commonly replaced Zuma 50 parts

  • CVT drive belt and variator rollers
  • Body panels and fenders
  • Headlight assemblies (bug-eye units for Gen 2/3)
  • Starter motor and battery
  • Exhaust system and muffler
  • Brake shoes and pads
  • Fuel pump (Gen 3)
  • Seat assembly and storage latch

Frequently asked questions

Q: Will parts from a 2-stroke Zuma 50 fit a 2012 or newer Zuma 50F?

No. The 2012 Zuma 50F switched to a completely different four-stroke, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine and revised frame. Engine components, exhaust, intake, and most electrical parts are not interchangeable between the 2-stroke (2002-2011) and four-stroke (2012+) generations. Some accessories like mirrors and aftermarket racks may cross over.

Q: Does the Zuma 50 share parts with the Yamaha C3 XF50?

The Gen 3 Zuma 50F (2012+) shares its 49cc four-stroke engine with the C3 XF50 (2007-2011) and the Vino (2006+). Engine internals, fuel injection components, and some electrical parts cross over between these models. However, bodywork, frames, and suspension are entirely different.

Q: Are Zuma 50FX parts the same as Zuma 50F parts?

The 2014+ Zuma 50FX uses the same engine, frame, and most mechanical components as the Zuma 50F. The key difference is the single headlight on the FX versus the dual bug-eye headlights on the 50F. Headlight assemblies, front cowling, and associated wiring harness sections differ between the two variants.
